![]() ![]() The crime novel, about a group of four elderly amateur sleuths in a retirement village, has sold 1.4 million copies since it was published in September last year and is the third best-selling hardback novel of all time in the UK, after Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol and JK Rowling‘s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. ![]() Then he showed it to a few trusted friends and asked them: “is this a proper book?” ![]() He had always wanted to write a crime novel and being, as he admits, “quite a goal-oriented person”, once he had the idea, he sat down, lit a candle and wrote 1,000 words a day – in secret – until he had 100,000 words.
